Store Encroachment Broad & Almira St.

The Town evidently expected this part of Broad Street to become entirely commercial, hence the construction of a store and tenement building at the corner of Almira Street outside of the residential building line. For some reason, this did not happen, and the store and the house at the right margin still coexist today. The house in the left background at the corner of Broad and Benson is now used as a day nursery. A dairy queen is to its left and what may have been the residence of Robert Cooke, son of "Madame" Cook of educational fame, may be at the left margin. The Nevada Diner is currently on the opposite side of Almira.
