Washington St. Dump East of RR

The most interesting aspect of this old photo is the difference in ground level between the street and the grade of the original ground level.

The slide is mislabeled. The actual location is the west side of the railroad and the street to the left is Washington Street looking toward the Center. Looking through the railroad underpass, you can see the Prince Hamlet Cigar sign on a building on Washington Street visible in the next slide. Part of the new Lackawanna Station can be seen at the upper right. The vacant land next to the street is possibly the bed of Lake Watsessing, which would account for its being below grade level.
